Welcome here, in this blog, I am going to explore the seven books that have greatly influenced Elon Musk on his path to success. These books cover a wide range of topics, from entrepreneurship to science and technology. So, let’s dive in! Very exciting books, I must confess.
Elon Musk is the CEO of Tesla and has co-founded many different companies many of which still run today. In interviews, he has given us insights on some of his Elon Musk favourite books. Elon being an avid reader no doubt loves reading.
So what books have so influenced him? We’ll see soon and understand why he does some of the things he does.
Zero To One by Peter Theil
In Book 1, we have Zero to One by Peter Thiel.
This book explores the concept of building something truly unique and groundbreaking, going from nothing to creating a monopoly. Thiel, a successful entrepreneur himself, shares his insights on innovation, competition, and the importance of creating new value in the business world.
One thing that makes this book remarkable is that the author, Peter, has helped and invested in many businesses over the years and from his wealth of experience in investing, he has given us a true gift from his brain. Being my favorite in the list, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for insights in building a business from zero to one.
One more fact, Peter has once had a partnership experience with Musk during the merging that birthed PayPal; guess they think alike. Hehe!
Einstein by Isaacson Walter
The second book on our list is “Einstein” by Walter Isaacson
This biography takes us into the life of one of the most brilliant physicists that graced the surface of the earth, Albert Einstein. It delves into his revolutionary ideas and his ability to think differently, which resonates with Elon Musk’s approach to problem-solving and pushing the boundaries of knowledge. Now you know where Musk gets his insights sometimes from.

Next on is Foundation by Isaac Asimov

Elon Musk is very much interested in AI and it’s not surprising that on this list, there is another AI book concerning the subject.

The next book on my list is a book titled “Superintelligence” by Nick Bostrom. A great recommendation if you ask me.
It delves into the future of AI and the potential risks and benefits associated with its development. Elon Musk considers AI to be one of the most crucial challenges humanity will face. This book likely provided him with valuable insights on the topic.

Remember Water Isaacson? This guy has written great Biographies of iconic individuals and one of the best icons of our world is Benjamin Franklin, The founding father of the United States.
This biography explores the life of one of America’s founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin, who was a polymath and an influential figure in various fields. Franklin’s relentless curiosity and his ability to excel in multiple disciplines align with Elon Musk’s interdisciplinary approach to innovation. I so much love how Isaacson detailed the life of Ben Franklin here, giving us a good glimpse of how he lived a very fulfilling life that had an impact on Elon’s life.

Last but not least, we have “Structures or Why Things Don’t Fall Down” by J. E. Gordon. This book provides an accessible introduction to the principles of structural engineering. Elon Musk’s ventures, such as SpaceX and The Boring Company, require a deep understanding of structural integrity. This book likely helped him gain valuable knowledge in this area.
